This Sunday is a public holiday in Victoria, which means anyone working is entitled to public holiday penalty rates.

Is Monday a public holiday for Anzac Day in Victoria?

Monday April 26 will not be a public holiday in Victoria, but Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory recognise Monday as a public holiday.

Like NSW and Tasmania, Victoria only recognises the Anzac Day long weekend if the occasion falls on a weekday, and there is no replacement day when the occasion falls on a weekend.

Workers are not entitled to public holiday penalty rates on Monday April 26.

What time does the dawn service start?

This year’s Dawn Service at the Shrine of Remembrance will be capped at 1400 people due to COVID-19 restrictions.

All places at the service were snapped up when registration opened on April 15, but those wanting to take part can view the service when it is live streamed at 5.40am.

As part of the Light Up Dawn Initiative, Victorians are also being encouraged to pause for a minute’s silence in their driveways at home.

Anzac Day Parade

Veterans can register for Melbourne’s Anzac Day parade until 12pm on Saturday April 24.

Some 5500 people will be allowed to march along St Kilda Road to the Shrine of Remembrance during this year’s parade, including veterans, their carers and descendants.

Participants will need to scan into the parade using QR codes that will be posted along the march route where COVIDsafe marshals will be stationed.

Veterans will march 1.5m apart along a shortened march route, organised into groups by their age and coronavirus risk.

Victorians can also attend a march or service in their local area if they want to avoid larger crowds.
