Masterchef addresses arrest of chef Ben Ungermann in awkward moment on TV cooking show

Masterchef has finally addressed the mysterious disappearance of chef Ben Ungermann from the show.

Last night, the judges made mention of the chef’s departure from the cooking show after it was reported Ungermann had been arrested during filming.

The pre-taped episodes have caught up with the real world as fans discovered in March that Ungermann was arrested over an incident of a “personal nature.”

“We can confirm Ben Ungermann has left the MasterChef Australia competition. As this is a police matter, we will not be making further comment,” A spokesman said at the time of his arrest.

While the judges addressed Ungermann’s absence, they kept things brief.

“So, before we get to today’s challenge, we’ve got some news. You’re probably wondering where Ben is, yeah?” judge Jock Zonfrillo said to the remaining contestants.

“Due to a personal matter, Ben has had to leave the competition and he will not be returning.”

The remaining chefs looked shocked by the news, but it didn’t stop them from carrying on with the cook-off.

The move confirms fan suspicions he was about to be cut out of the show, after he was noticeably absent from the hotly anticipated Katy Perry special on Thursday.

But while fans noticed Ungermann wasn’t there to rub shoulders with the A-lister, he appeared later in Thursday night’s show, leading to more confusion.

The chef has yet to make a public comment what led to his arrest, but he replied to a fan comment on his Instagram account, after they expressed how “devastated” they were at his departure.

“How do they edit you out?” the fan queried.

“That’s up to MasterChef Australia. Appreciate the support,” Ungermann replied.
