Carlton remain uncertain as to whether they will play Essendon next weekend, after the Bombers were forced into isolation when defender Conor McKenna tested positive for COVID-19.
Blues coach David Teague said his focus had been on the upcoming clash at Geelong and club officials were uncertain what might happen to the fixture scheduled for next Saturday night.
“I knew the game had been postponed but other than that I didn’t ask for details. I didn’t really care too much. I thought we were going to have our hands full playing Geelong down here so my focus was on that,” Teague said.
The uncertainty surrounding the season faded into the background momentarily when Eddie Betts gave the Blues the start they so desperately needed with an early goal. He was there at the end, too, to lay a tackle on Cats defender Jack Henry as Carlton clung to a two-point lead in a heroic, line-to-line performance from the veteran forward.
