Cripps thrilled with upset win

Carlton co-captain Patrick Cripps says his side’s two-point victory over Geelong is one of the best wins he’s played in.

Cripps, who debuted for Carlton in 2014, said he was proud of his team’s efforts as they recorded their first win of the 2020 AFL season on Saturday night.

“I haven’t played in a heap of wins so every win is a great win for me at the moment,” Cripps told AFL Nation.

“I’m just so proud of the boys, it’s a pretty good feeling at the moment.”

The 25-year old says it was a relief to start the match fast after slow starts in round one and two.

“It’s a bit of relief. After the first two rounds we played some good footy in patches so we were always pretty confident but to come down here and beat a very good outfit on their home deck is pretty hard to do,” Cripps said.

“We pressed and put them under a lot of pressure and we did that for three quarters.

“Once we get into the game our footy is really good, it’s just about the intensity early.

“We know when we compete and bring that press like we did tonight that it stacks up against anyone.”

Last year’s AFLPA MVP says there’s plenty of belief in the group and that they’re improving every game.

“Obviously under Teaguey (David Teague) we’re proud of the win-loss ledger,” he said.

“We keep trying to get better and compete and we have the belief there, there’s no doubt about that.

“We’re 1 and 2 now early on and it gives the group a lot of confidence that we can beat anyone, anywhere.”

Since taking the senior coaching role at the club, David Teague has a winning percentage of 50%.

Carlton are fixtured to take on Essendon in round four.
