Newcastle face the Storm on Saturday, with Phoenix Crossland being given a chance to partner Mitchell Pearce in the halves.
Meanwhile, Roosters fans will get their first glimpse at rising stars Sam Walker and Joseph Suaalii when the Chooks travel to Queanbeyan to face the Canberra Raiders.
Star half Luke Keary won’t take part in the match after picking up a hamstring injury. The 29-year-old was set to pull on the No.7 jersey after coach Trent Robinson confirmed Keary would make the switch to halfback this year.
The Roosters will announce their team on Wednesday, but their opponents will hand Ryan James his first game of rugby league since he injured his ACL in Round 6 of the 2019 season.
James missed 2020 due to another ACL.
Elsewhere, Scott Drinkwater will get first crack at the Cowboys No. 1 jumper, ousting Valentine Holmes and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow as North Queensland face the Broncos.

Drinkwater who comes off contract this year, told AAP on Tuesday: “I’ll be playing a bit at fullback and I’ve been five eighth and at half.
“I know I was going to train both in the halves and at fullback but a couple of injuries happened and there’s not much depth there.
“So it just turned out that I kind of had to stay there for most of the pre-season.
“It’s a lot more running so I have really had to push myself to get my fitness levels up.”
