Girlfriend references ‘struggles’ in touching message to Nick Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios’ girlfriend has issued a sweet — albeit belated — Valentine’s Day message to the Aussie tennis star.

Chiara Passari, who jetted in to Melbourne for lockdown after Kyrgios’ Australian Open singles exit, took to Instagram as she publicly expressed her love for the 25-year-old.

“I have learnt a lot and am also learning a lot about myself since meeting you,” she wrote alongside a photo of the two together in a car.

“There will always be struggles but as long as that magic and those unforgettable experiences are there it’s all worth it.

“Happy belated Valentine’s. I love you.”

Passari flew to Victoria to see Kyrgios lose to Dominic Thiem in the third round at Melbourne Park, and the pair spent Valentine’s Day together before Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis lost their doubles match on Sunday night.

Kyrgios was spotted giving his girlfriend a peck on the cheek during a training session but later, Passari was filmed on the Australian Open broadcast awkwardly leaning away from one of his attempted kisses.

Kyrgios was philosophical after losing to Thiem in five sets — having coughed up a two-set lead — and it may have had something to do with the presence of Passari, who he admitted to missing badly in the early rounds of the tournament.

Kyrgios’ relationship appears rock solid after some eye-catching social media activity sparked rumours he’d broken up with Passari.

Kyrgios appeared to delete all but one image of Passari on his Instagram after she posted a cryptic message about “cheaters” before the Australian Open kicked off.

Passari didn’t mention any names or reference the Aussie tennis star in her post, which was uploaded to her Instagram story.

“Cheaters always want you to be loyal while they’re being unfaithful,” it read.

Passari added the caption “It keeps getting better y’all”, with several upside down smiling emojis.

But Kyrgios indicated they were on track by writing messages like “Miss u Chizzel” on the camera lens after his matches and dispelled any doubt about their relationship status when he referred to his “amazing girlfriend” when asked a question about his perspective on tennis after one match.

Kyrgios’ damning swipe at Novak injury

He may have been knocked out of the Australian Open on Friday, but that won’t stop Nick Kyrgios from firing shots at world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

The pair have been exchanging heated words for several months, instigated by Djokovic’s controversial Adria Tour.

In July, Kyrgios called out the 17-time grand slam champion for his “stupidity” after launching the charity event without any social distancing measures.

It’s fair to say Djokovic hasn’t been the biggest fan of the Canberra athlete ever since.

“Off the court, I don’t have much respect for (Kyrgios), to be honest,” the Serbian said last week.

“That’s where I’ll close it. I really don’t have any further comments for him, his own comments for me or anything else he’s trying to do.”

Kyrgios responded to the remarks on Monday: “He’s a very strange cat, Novak is.

“Heck of a tennis player, but unfortunately someone that’s partying with his shirt off during a global pandemic, I don’t know if I can take any slack from that man. That’s as bad as it gets for me.”

Despite a brief ceasefire, the 25-year-old Australian has taken another jab at Djokovic following Friday’s thrilling five-set victory over America’s Taylor Fritz.

Djokovic battled an abdominal “muscle tear” during the third round encounter, and needed a 10-minute medical timeout to be treated.

He didn’t attend training the following day as he awaited scans.

After the defeat, Fritz told reporters with tongue firmly in cheek: “When I hit a winner, he’d kind of, like, pull at it. He looked fine in the fifth.”

On Sunday morning, Fritz posted a thank you message to his Instagram followers: “Really tough way to go out at #ausopen so close to something big after fighting as hard as I could … Too tough from @djokernole in the end and I hope his injury is better soon.”

Kyrgios cheekily commented on the post: “Imma take a medical real quick Fritzy, I’ll be back in 2 hours.”

LIVE BLOG: Australian Open day seven

Djokovic has been given the maximum amount of time to recover from a midriff muscle tear that left him grimacing on virtually every shot during Friday’s match.

“He is an interesting character. He seems to need other energies to be able to find ways to get through matches sometimes,” Australian great Todd Woodbridge said on Wide World of Sports’ The Morning Serve.

“When he gets through to the back end of tournaments, to these majors, he steels himself and it has a bit of a feeling of what we’ve seen before.

“He said it felt like a tear. If it’s a tear, well that does not heal quickly and if you go back out, there’s the potential you do more damage. So it’ll be a wait and see, but we’ve seen him come back and win from somewhat similar situations.”

The Serbian superstar, looking for a record-extending ninth Australian Open crown, will feature in the late-night match on Rod Laver Arena against big-serving Canadian Milos Raonic on Sunday.

“I’m very proud,” Djokovic said after Friday’s match, which was halted midway through to eject fans ahead of a five-day coronavirus lockdown.

“At the same time, sad and worried, because it’s definitely something serious happening with my injury. I don’t have much time to recover for the next match.”

Meanwhile, Kyrgios lost his third round encounter with world No. 3 Dominic Thiem on Friday evening, but is yet to be eliminated in the doubles tournament.

Nick Kyrgios girlfriend Chiara Passari flies to Australian Open 2021 for Melbourne lockdown

Nick Kyrgios is out of the Australian Open but he won’t be alone in lockdown after his girlfriend made a last-minute dash to Melbourne.

Nick Kyrgios’ girlfriend Chiara Passari couldn’t inspire her man to victory at the Australian Open but will be on hand to help him pick up the pieces after a tough five-set defeat against Dominic Thiem on Friday night.

Passari posted a photograph of herself flying to Melbourne ahead of Kyrgios’ third round match and was spotted watching him inside John Cain Arena as he coughed up a two-set lead against the world number three.

Kyrgios was philosophical after the defeat and it may have had something to do with the presence of Passari, who he admitted to missing badly in the early rounds of the tournament.

“I know I absolutely left it all out there and I’m not taking any shame in losing in five sets to the Australian Open finalist and US Open champion,” Kyrgios said.

“I know I’ve got a great support team around me. My best friends are there after I lose the match saying ‘good job’. My girlfriend flew in to watch me play. I’m extremely lucky.

POLL: Is Nick Kyrgios a lost cause?

“I’m not upset at all. I’m actually not disappointed that I lost. I’m going to come with my head held high tomorrow (Saturday) and play some doubles and see what tennis I’ll play this year.

“If I continue to play like that I’m sure the results will follow.”

Kyrgios’ relationship appears rock solid after a week of eye-catching social media activity sparked rumours he’d broken up with Passari.

Kyrgios appeared to delete all but one image of Passari on his Instagram after she posted a cryptic message about “cheaters” this week.

Melbourne’s latest COVID scare created chaos at Melbourne Park on Friday night as fans were evicted midway through the fourth set of Novak Djokovic’s match at 11.30pm to comply with Victoria’s five-day lockdown.

Professional athletes are deemed “essential workers” so the grand slam can continue, but only behind closed doors.

Tournament director Craig Tiley told reporters that players, their support staff and essential personnel will still be allowed on site as stars compete in a bubble format until Wednesday.

This means players will only be allowed to travel between Melbourne Park and their accommodation.

The Australian Open released a statement on Friday afternoon saying: “Tennis Australia continues to work with the government to ensure the healthy and safety of everyone.

“We are notifying ticketholders, players and staff that there will be no fans onsite at the AO for five days, commencing from Saturday 13 February.

“Full refunds will be available for anyone who has tickets for these sessions and they will be advised on how to apply as soon as possible.”

Nick Kyrgios’ next move a mystery he’s yet to solve

“I was going through a lot during the year, and I was pretty proud with the way I prepared. I was really, really, really happy with the way I played.

“I mean, my perspective – look, I lost that match. As soon as I lost, I wasn’t upset. I was smiling, I was happy for him.

“He’s put in a lot of work, the body of work, the foundation he’s put in. He’s rewarded for it. I’m happy for it. I’m not a jealous or envious person.

“So I lose, I’ll live on tomorrow. That’s just how I look at it. I don’t look at this week as an achievement or anything. I had a lot of good memories. It is what is.”

Part of that perspective may be fuelled by the level of tennis Kyrgios played in the seven days.

After spending a year away from the tour, he was a few points away from beating the player many believe will eventually succeed Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer as the world’s best.

“ I mean, he’s the third-best player in the world for a reason,” Kyrgios said.

“And I’m right there and I believe in myself. I knew that today I had an absolute fighting chance.

“I walked in that match expecting to win. That’s how I always go into a match. But he steadied the ship well and that’s why he’s great.”

Kyrgios’ year away from the court showed he will not rush to his next tournament.

But not even the 25-year-old is sure when he will play next.

“I don’t know, man. I can change like the wind,” he said.

“For me personally, man, I’m used to playing in front of packed stadiums. I’m not gonna force myself around the world when the time is not right where I have to quarantine for a week and then play. I don’t know.

“I’m not too sure what lies head.”

Kyrgios’ best surface has always been grass but, when asked whether he would target Wimbledon as his next big tournament, the Canberran said he had given no thought to that possibility.

“I don’t even know what tournaments there are after this. I have paid no attention to what I’m playing afterwards, really,” he said.

“I’ll look at it when it comes around. I’m not going to even think about anything at the moment, especially just coming off the court. The last thing I’m gonna do is think about where I’m gonna play next.

“I’m going to enjoy the next week just living. Just enjoying time. We’re in lockdown after tonight, so I’m not thinking about it.

“As I said, I don’t particularly care, either. When I play, I’ll play. When I’m ready to play, I’ll play.”

Nick Kyrgios faces major Australian Open test against Dominic Thiem in third round, live updates

This pair has a weird relationship

Despite never having really met on the court, there have been some shots fired across the bow around the traps, thanks largely to photos like the one below…

(AP)

Thiem (right) played at Novak Djokovic’s Adria Tour and was actually very prolific on tour last year, while Kyrgios stayed completely away from the sport once COVID hit.

Kyrgios had some things to say about the risks of playing during the pandemic, and Djokovic, Thiem and others had some words back at him.

Thiem: “It was [Djokovic’s] mistake, but I don’t understand why a lot of people want to interfere. Kyrgios did a lot of mistakes himself. It would be better for him to come clean instead of criticising others.”

Kyrgios: “What are you talking about? Mistakes like smashing rackets? Swearing? Tanking a few matches here or there? Which everyone does? None of you have the intellectual level to even understand where I’m coming from. I’m trying to hold them accountable. This just shows what a joke [Thiem, Zverev and Djokovic] think this is, two of them partying like potatoes during a global pandemic. People losing lives, loved ones and friends, and then Thiem standing up for the ‘mistake’. These guys are the ‘top’ of our sport. SMH.”

He also quite drunkenly ragged on the Austrian on Instagram with Andy Murray, basically saying he just wasn’t the type of person he’d want to get on the beers with.

But, he also apparently did exactly that in Mexico a few years back.

Lovesick Kyrgios’ sweet message shows he’s missing home

Nick Kyrgios has shown off his boyfriend chops with a sweet message to his girlfriend Chiara Passari on Instagram.

Ahead of his second round match against French 29th seed Ugo Humbert tonight, Kyrgios showed he was missing home with a sweet post in tribute to his girlfriend.

LIVE BLOG: Australian Open Day 3

Kyrgios posted this sweet message to his missus around lunchtime after making it emphatically clear they were still together despite recent rumours and peculiar social media activity.

But it comes after a seemingly turbulent week for the couple.

Passari sent tongues magging after posting a cryptic Instagram story on the eve of the Open.

“Cheaters always want you to be loyal while they’re being unfaithful,” it read.

While she didn’t mention names, Kyrgios then deleted all but one picture of her from his social media account

Kyrgios’ Instagram feed was full of photos and loving posts about his new flame, who he started dating in the middle of last year as he returned to his home city of Canberra during the pandemic.

But the latest post along with his on court actions appear to show a much rosier outlook for the pair.

After his 6-4 6-4 6-4 win over Portugal’s Frederico Ferreira Silva in round one, Kyrgios showed he was thinking of her when he signed the camera post match.

“Miss u Chizzel,” he wrote, with a smiley face.

Kyrgios dispelled any doubt about their relationship status when he referred to his “amazing girlfriend” when asked a question about his perspective on tennis during his post-match press conference.

S“I feel old. This sport has stressed me out. I feel like an old soul. At the end of the day it’s just a tennis match. Obviously I’m going to get angry as I’m playing because I’m a competitor, I always want to win. But I don’t beat myself up over losses,” he said.

“I’m extremely lucky to even be in my position. I’m healthy. I’ve got great friends, great family, an amazing girlfriend back home — I’m blessed. Look at me, I’m a wise man now.”

And to complete his night, he FaceTimed with Passari back in his hotel room — and shared a screenshot of them talking.

“Chiara Passari my recovery for the night,” Kyrgios wrote.

Before Passari, Kyrgios was dating Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya. But in May last year, the couple — who had been spotted together at an NBA game and watching each other’s tennis matches — confirmed they were no longer in a relationship.

“We just went our separate ways,” Kyrgios told fans during a video game live stream. “Unfortunately things didn’t work out. We had some fun memories.”

Nick Kyrgios slams Novak Djokovic, no respect, girlfriend sledge, results, dummy spit

Nick Kyrgios is through to the second round after beating Portugal’s Frederico Ferreira Silva in straight sets – but as usual, the attention wasn’t completely on his tennis.

The Aussie wild child shook off some early rust to eventually cruise to a 6-4 6-4 6-4 win but it took just two games for the world No. 47 to start muttering angrily to himself.

He failed to take advantage of a break point in the first game, then was broken in the second as Ferreira Silva took a 2-0 lead in the opening set.

Waiting to receive again, Kyrgios seemed to say it was “unbelievable” he’d coughed up an early lead and chastised himself for his early bungle.

“Are you awake? You’re saying one thing for two games,” Kyrgios said to himself.

His murmurings were followed by a marathon third game and after botching a seventh break point, Kyrgios shouted to a member of his entourage, complaining about their girlfriend.

Kyrgios finally broke back in the third game and then held serve for 2-2.

The 25-year-old was far from happy but found his groove as normal service resumed and he claimed the first set 6-4.

With his temper tantrums out of the way, Kyrgios could concentrate on playing somewhere near his best and when he locked in his serve he was unstoppable.

He got some rapid points off his own racquet – including a blistering 46-second hold in the eighth game of the second set – as he took a 6-4 6-4 lead.

It looked like Kyrgios would maintain the rage in the third but after being broken to love in the second game, he blew up again, appearing to yell at his box once more.

Thankfully it was just a minor speed bump and Kyrgios unleashed his full array of strokes – including an incredible drop shot tweener winner – as he motored to victory.

“It was special. I appreciate you guys coming out. Obviously very strange year last year. We all overcame it together to make this possible,” Kyrgios said when asked what it meant to be back on his favourite court in the world.

“I’m just super appreciative of you guys coming out. It was amazing. It felt normal, to be honest. You guys were going nuts, it was good to see. Hopefully we can continue to do it.”
