Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2021 Shows Revealed

Wondering what’s in store for the 2021 Adelaide Cabaret Festival? Buckle up because six shows were revealed as a line-up for the biggest Cabaret Festival in the world happening on the 11th – 26th of June 2021.

This will definitely give an immersive New York bar Club Cumming feels that will transform Space Theatre into a Bohemian French hotel. The AFC says it will see the Space Theatre transformed into “a French hotel brimming with bohemian verve…”

L’Hôtel will be directed by Craig Ilott – who also took credit for Adelaide Fringe hit Velvet – with shows of cabaret artists, burlesque and circus performers including singer Brendan Maclean

According to Illott, having a project emerging from such turbulent times makes it more exciting, not to mention that L’Hotel is about the need to connect to something real and meaningful, something that makes us feel alive. It explores that which we present and that which we conceal.”

As announced in their official website, Brendan Maclean will perform alongside Scottish-American actor and Singer, Alan Cumming at the helm for Adelaide Cabaret Festival’s L’Hôtel. This, with other early release shows such as Boobs by Selina Jenkins – cabaret artist, musician and comedian – recounting her life-changing decision to have a voluntary double mastectomy.

Then, followed by, Betty Blokk Buster, a 21st Century homage to Reg Livemore’s 1975 one-man show Betty Blokk-Buster Follies and Cabaret Festival Variety Gala hosted by Hans – “the Berlin Boy Wonder” – on the 11th of June 2021 at the Festival Theatre.

But, one the highlights of the entire Festival will be Alan Cumming is Not Acting His Age, a world premiere of the artistic director’s own new show. As he also owned a cabaret bar in New York’s East Village, he is the perfect highlight for the event.

In addition, each weekend of the festival Club Cumming will be presented as a late-night hub in The Famous Spiegeltent, with DJ set, live entertainment and dancing.

“Anything could happen, and hopefully it will. But the spirit of Club Cumming – all colors, all genders, all sexualities, and kindness, provocation and fun above all – I hope will infuse the entire festival” he says.

Tickets for the early-release shows are now on sale from 9:30 am today, and the full Cabaret Festival program will be launched in earlier in March 2021.
