Hong Kong: Top cop caught in unlicensed massage parlour raid

A top cop in Hong Kong police’s National Security Department has been placed on leave after he was caught in a raid on an unlicensed massage parlour, say local media reports.

Reports have named him as Director of National Security Frederic Choi.

According to news site SCMP, visiting an unlicensed parlour is not an offence but could “damage the force’s image”.

This is the first big scandal to hit the unit after it was set up to enforce the city’s national security law.

Thousands in Hong Kong protested last June when the national security law was implemented.

The law criminalises secession, subversion and collusion with foreign forces with the maximum sentence life in prison. However, Beijing has said it will target “sedition” and bring stability.

Since the law was enacted around 100 people – including prominent pro-democracy activists – have been arrested.

Hong Kong police told BBC Chinese in a statement that they were investigating “an allegation of misconduct by a police officer”, adding that the person involved had been placed on leave while the investigation continues.

“The police attach great importance to the conduct of police officers… [we] will conduct a fair investigation,” it added, though it declined to give further details on the incident or name the person involved.

A senior police insider had told the South China Morning Post that while visiting or “buying service at an unlicensed massage parlour might not constitute an offence that could result in an arrest, Choi could face a disciplinary hearing as his conduct affects the force’s image and damages its reputation.”

Reports say Mr Choi became a police inspector in 1995, and was made senior assistant commissioner and director of the National Security Department last July.

In February, he was one of seven officers honoured at a ceremony by Hong Kong chief executive Carrie Lam for their contributions in safeguarding national security.

Mr Choi had reportedly been a favourite to head the police force in the future, according to local reports.

Shooter kills 8 in Asian massage parlors in Atlanta out of racial strife

A 21-year-old male suspect went on a shooting spree in Atlanta and its suburbs, Georgia, USA. The man opened fire at massage parlours and killed eight people, most of them women of Asian descent, CBS42.com reports.

Atlanta massage parlor shootings

The man was taken into custody, the police suspect that he committed the crime for racial reasons.

The man was captured as a result of the chase. He was identified as 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long. The surveillance footage confirms that he was present at all three locations, where the shootings took place. The FBI opened investigation into the attacks.

The attacks began around 5 p.m., when the shooter killed five people at Youngs Asian Massage Parlor in a strip mall near a rural area in Acworth, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of Atlanta. Two people died at the scene and three others died later at hospital.

About an hour later, police in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta, responding to a call of a robbery, found three women dead from apparent gunshot wounds at Gold Spa. When the scene, the police received another call reporting shots fired at another spa across the street. A woman who appeared to have been shot dead inside the shop.

Prosecutor: Preserve massage parlor video of Patriots owner

A Florida prosecutor is asking a judge to preserve video that allegedly shows New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft paying for massage parlor sex

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A Florida prosecutor asked a judge to preserve video that allegedly shows New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft paying for massage parlor sex, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

A misdemeanor solicitation charge against Kraft was dropped in September after an appeals court ruled in that video evidence couldn’t be used in the case.

But Palm Beach County State Attorney David Aronberg argues there is still a civil case pending in which the videos could be used as evidence.

“The Office of the State Attorney cannot legally or ethically agree to the destruction of evidence relevant to this known, pending litigation,” Aronberg said in the court filing.

Kraft’s attorney asked the appeals court judge to order the video be destroyed so it can’t be released to the public.

Police say they recorded Kraft, a widower, paying for sex acts at a Jupiter spa on consecutive days in January 2019. Kraft pleaded not guilty but issued a public apology for his actions.

If not for the pending lawsuit, Aronberg said he doesn’t want the videos.

“To be abundantly clear, the Office of the State Attorney has no interest in maintaining possession of, or releasing to the public, any of the surveillance videos through these prosecutions,” the filing said.

Canberra massage parlour owner accused of threatening to kill employees’ families denies wrongdoing

The former owner of a Canberra massage business has denied doing anything wrong after being accused of threatening to have the families of his employees killed if they spoke up about alleged unfair working conditions.

Foot and Thai Massage, its former owner Colin Elvin and another man, Jun Millard Puerto, are being pursued by the Fair Work Ombudsman in the Federal Court over alleged breaches of the Fair Work Act.

The business is now in liquidation and has debts of more than $1 million, including $400,000 owed to the Australian Tax Office and more than $600,000 to the unpaid workers.

The allegations against the company and the two men include that they underpaid seven workers between June 2012 and January 2016.

The Fair Work Ombudsman says the workers were required to work unreasonable hours, that they were not paid annual leave or other entitlements and that appropriate payment records were not kept.

At the time the court action was announced, then-fair work ombudsman Natalie James described it as containing “some of the most shocking allegations of exploitation” the agency had ever seen.

“We allege that the threats made to these employees were ongoing while they were in Australia and designed to conceal the way they were being callously exploited,” she said.

“This type of conduct has no place in Australia and it deserves utter condemnation and appropriate sanctioning.”

Boss claims allegations are made up

In a hearing in the Federal Court on Friday, lawyers for the Ombudsman also detailed allegations Mr Elvin had told the women, through Mr Puerto, that if they complained he would send them back to the Philippines.

He allegedly said in some cases the workers’ families would be killed if they disclosed their working conditions to the government.

But Mr Elvin told the court that wasn’t true.

Mr Elvin said the wording of the complaints were remarkably similar.

“There was a follow-the-leader pattern,” he said.

Mr Elvin also took issue with claims he had not met his obligations to provide fair pay and conditions under the award.

He told the court his workers should not have been paid under the Hair and Beauty Award since none had an Australian massage qualification.

Lawyers for the Ombudsman have told the Federal Court a second group of six workers were made to pay back $800 a fortnight when the business was not doing well.

The court heard that was not recorded on the payslips, which is also a breach of workplace laws.

The case has seen long delays, partly because of COVID-19.

The Fair Work Ombudsman is hoping to claim back the money owed to the workers, as well as imposing substantial fines.

A decision in the case is expected next year.

Spiritual healer turned guru to Hollywood stars lifts the lid on massage sessions with Prince Andrew

Spiritual healer turned guru to Hollywood’s stars lifts the lid on massage sessions with aloof Prince Andrew in Jeffrey Epstein’s house of sin

  • Gypsy Gita, 70, who worked for billionaire Jeffrey Epstein from 2001 to 2005
  • Mr Gita claims he met Andrew on three occasions and massaged him twice
  • He described the Prince as being ‘aloof’, adding: ‘I didn’t know who Andrew was’

A Hollywood ‘guru to the stars’ has described giving a massage to Prince Andrew inside the ‘weird and creepy’ mansion of convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Gypsy Gita, 70, who worked for the billionaire from 2001 to 2005, claims he met Andrew on three occasions and massaged him twice.

He described the Prince as being ‘aloof’, adding: ‘I didn’t know who Andrew was. Most Americans, at least until recently, wouldn’t have a clue who he is.

‘I found him a bit strange, arrogant, ‘off’ in some way I couldn’t put my finger on. He was aloof and odd.’

Mr Gita, a Native American spiritual healer who has worked with celebrities including US President Donald Trump and actress Minnie Driver, was introduced to Epstein and his alleged ‘madam’ Ghislaine Maxwell when Trump passed his phone number on.

He described walking into Epstein’s £55 million home in Manhattan as like entering ‘a weird, warped world’, adding: ‘It was creepy. Once you went through the big front doors there was a desk you checked in at and then you turned left to go to the sitting room where visitors waited.

‘There was this huge wall of prosthetic eyeballs. There must have been 150 at least. Jeffrey would say: ‘Don’t forget you are being watched at all times.’

He said that Epstein – who killed himself in prison last year while being held on multiple child sex charges – always wore a ‘uniform’.

‘I massaged him a multiple times and he would always wear sweatshirts which said either Harvard or Yale on them,’ he said. Epstein went to neither, but was a donor to both.

Mr Gita added: ‘He always had this smirk on his face, like he was the smartest guy in the room. I’ve been around celebrities and billionaires who have Monets on their walls so I wasn’t awestruck by him. I just thought he was weird.

Andrew – who was seen yesterday whistling nonchalantly as he drove out of Windsor Castle – has vehemently and repeatedly denied Ms Roberts’s accusations and any suggestion of wrongdoing

‘I always worked on him in the upstairs massage room.’

It was in this room that women, including Andrew’s accuser Virginia Roberts, say they were abused.

Andrew – who was seen yesterday whistling nonchalantly as he drove out of Windsor Castle – has vehemently and repeatedly denied Ms Roberts’s accusations and any suggestion of wrongdoing.

Father-of-two Mr Gita insists that he was never aware of any underage girls at Epstein’s properties. ‘If I’d been aware of him abusing children he’d be dead,’ he said.

He bitterly regrets introducing women into Epstein’s orbit. As The Mail on Sunday revealed last week, Chauntae Davies claims she was trafficked as a sex slave after Mr Gita introduced her to Ms Maxwell.

‘Chauntae was a trainee masseuse working for me and Ghislaine offered her a full-time job. I had no idea she ended up in such a terrible situation,’ he said.

Mr Gita also claims that he massaged Andrew again at Ms Maxwell’s New York townhouse:

‘She had her own massage room and I worked on Andrew there. He had bad body posture.’

Mr Gita said that Epstein – who killed himself in prison last year while being held on multiple child sex charges – always wore a 'uniform'. 'I massaged him a multiple times and he would always wear sweatshirts which said either Harvard or Yale on them,' he said. Epstein went to neither, but was a donor to both. He says he stopped working for Epstein when Ms Maxwell made what he considered to be a veiled threat.

‘She said: ‘You’re going to start hearing things about Jeffrey and I want you to know none of it’s true.’

When I hesitated, she said: ‘I know you have two daughters.’ That scared me. I’d never told her or Jeffrey about my family and it felt like a threat. I never went back.’

Ms Maxwell is awaiting trial on charges of procuring underage girls for sex and perjury. She denies all the charges. Representatives for Prince Andrew last night declined to comment.
