Sheffield Shield final 2021, live cricket scores, Queensland vs NSW: How to watch, weather updates, Marnus Labuschagne

Sheffield Shield final, Queensland vs New South Wales, day three at Allan Border Field

New South Wales have but one option against Queensland on day three of the Sheffield Shield final: attack.

Already heavily trailing, the Blues have a mountain to climb if they want to get back in the match against the Bulls, who are 4-317 after 129 overs.

The visitors had no answer to Marnus Labuschagne on Friday, as the Test first-drop moved from 23 to finish the day unbeaten on 160. Along the way he peeled off the sixth highest Shield final score.

Brisbane VR company Next World scores Joe Biden-backed US contract

Brisbane-based virtual-reality training company Next World has made the major leap to the United States with a contract with the University of the District of Columbia.

Next World offers virtual reality training modules, which allows workers to get training in a range of scenarios without having to visit potentially dangerous sites beforehand.

The university has introduced a new course, Critical Infrastructure, designed in collaboration with Next World and using its technology, as part of the Biden Administration’s Build Back Better economic and infrastructure mandate.

Next World founder and CEO Michael O’Reilly said they were thrilled with the US contract, as they saw the country as a major growth market.

“When it comes to the technology sector, the US is the place to be, so we’re really pleased to get our foot in the door there,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“In the US we’re very focused on getting affiliations with universities, so we hope UDC will be the first of many, because safety training in the US is often through universities and colleges, so that is a natural fit for us.”

University of the District of Columbia professor Anthony Mazza said they had worked directly with Next World to bring the course together.

“Next World is a key player in our ground-breaking new course which specifically aligns with the Biden Administration’s economic incentive to roll out a workforce development plan to address critical infrastructure issues in the United States,” he said.

Former deputy labour secretary and head of Biden transition team Chris Lu personally signed off on UDC’s course with Next World, as part of the Build Back Better program, designed to address the US’s crumbling public infrastructure.

IPL 2021, cricket scores, RCB vs Mumbai Indians: Glenn Maxwell praised by Virat Kohli in Indian Premier League win

Glenn Maxwell played a “momentum changing” knock as Royal Challengers Bangalore prevailed in a last-ball thriller against holders Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League opener played behind closed doors on Friday.

South Africa’s AB de Villiers hit a quickfire 48 while Maxwell batted at No.4 and made 39 from 28 balls which left his captain Virat Kohli pleased.

“We wanted Maxi to bat at four,” Kohli said. “The set-up was such that if we get a partnership, then Maxi comes into the game and he can do what he does.

Port Adelaide has held on to record a thrilling and crucial win at Adelaide Oval, knocking off reigning premiers Richmond by two points.

In a rematch of two of the best games from last season – a home-and-away belter, and a preliminary final thriller – both teams had issues with their skill level, but it led to a cracking finish.

The Power (3-1) probably should‘ve led by four goals at half-time but awful conversion in front of goal kept the Tigers (2-2) in it, and as expected the champions fought back.

In the final term, Richmond hit the front with six minutes left through Kane Lambert – who was the match-winner late in last year’s prelim – but Robbie Gray restored Port Adelaide’s lead with four minutes to go.

They then held on for dear life in the final seconds, including a clever but clear rushed behind from Gray.

Should the Tigers get younger? | 02:15

QUARTER-BY-QUARTER MATCH REPORT

Just 20 minutes before the bounce, Port Adelaide made a very late change, with forward Todd Marshall withdrawing with an ankle injury. He was replaced by Peter Ladhams, with the subs remaining as Sam Mayes (Port Adelaide) and Josh Caddy (Richmond).

There was a big roar when debutant Lachie Jones came onto the ground for the first time, and he tried to collect several opponents with huge bumps in the first few minutes – but missed all of them.

Zak Butters gave Port the perfect start, slotting a goal off a high tackle free kick just a minute into the contest, before Kane Lambert – who kicked the two winning goals in last year’s prelim – gave Richmond their response, before the game slowed down dramatically.

Despite struggling in the clearances, the Tigers went end-to-end with ease to take an early two-goal lead. Majors from Steven Motlop and Xavier Duursma levelled the scores, but the visitors ended up on top at quarter-time, 4.2 (26) to 3.3 (21).

Duursma was sent into the advertising boards by Jack Ross during the first term, having his shoulder and elbow examined in the aftermath.

Motlop’s second goal of the night saw the Power back in front for the first time since the opening minutes as they finally cashed in on their clearance dominance.

It took 14 minutes in the second term, and a horrendous turnover from Hamish Hartlett, for Richmond to get on the board via Jack Riewoldt. He later added his third of the night.

Power recruit Orazio Fantasia limped off the ground with fears of an ankle injury late in the quarter, as his teammates missed shot after shot on goal, wasting chances to build a healthy lead. They led 6.10 (46) to 6.3 (39) at halftime.

“The ball lived in Port Adelaide’s half, they couldn’t move the football Richmond once Port got it in, but Port just didn’t capitalise. It should be a three or four-goal lead,” St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt said on Fox Footy.

Melbourne champion Garry Lyon described the skills from both sides as “horrendous”, while Port also copped it for kicking 3.7 in the term.

The Tigers made them pay early in the third quarter as Jason Castagna put the visitors back on top; they then dominated territory, recording 11 of 15 inside 50s.

Classy Houli’s mid-game ‘discussion’ | 00:49

But the Power didn’t let the game get away from them in a dominant Richmond patch; consecutive goals to Dan Houston and Connor Rozee saw them reclaim the lead late in the term.

A booming set shot from Hamish Hartlett helped the hosts lead 9.12 (66) to 8.7 (55) at three-quarter-time.

Dustin Martin stepped up early in the final term with a clever goal, getting the margin back to within a kick, before Mitch Georgiades restored the lead off a Noah Balta infringement.

The exhausted Power had to desperately defend for the last period of the match as Richmond dominated territory, with Lambert putting them two points up with 6:19 to play.

Robbie Gray then took a brilliant contested mark inside 50 and kicked truly, restoring a four-point lead with 4:14 left.

Marsh Cup 2021: Sam Harper given out obstructing the field, news, video, Victoria vs South Australia, cricket, scores, live stream

Victoria’s dismal one-day cup campaign ended in bizarre fashion when opener Sam Harper was given out for the rare offence of obstructing the field.

In the final match of an as-yet-winless season, Harper blocked a delivery from South Australian paceman Daniel Worrall back to the bowler, who picked it up and threw it at the batsman’s stumps.

Cricket Australia, Sheffield Shield scores, table, ladder: Chadd Sayers retirement, NSW vs Queensland, Victoria vs SA

The Sheffield Shield season is officially over for Victoria and South Australia, thus signalling the end of Chadd Sayers’ first-class career, too.

Teams decided to shake hands for the draw just before tea on day four at Junction Oval, with South Australia 9-329 and leading by 297.

The last wicket to fall, fittingly, was that of Sayers, who ends with an impressive first-class tally of 320 wickets at 26.51.

Mitchell Swepson bowls Daniel Hughes, miracle ball, Shane Warne impersonation, Sheffield Shield scores

Don’t worry, we’re not going to do something outlandish like label Mitchell Swepson the next Shane Warne — but he did pull off a darn good impersonation of the Spin King in the Sheffield Shield on Monday.

The Queensland leggie did something very, very special when he ripped a ball out of the rough from way outside off stump to bamboozle Daniel Hughes and bowl the NSW opener for 16.

It was reminiscent of Warne’s famous delivery to Shivnarine Chanderpaul in 1996, when he did the same thing from around the wicket to castle the left-handed West Indian with a ball that spun a mile.

Swepson didn’t take long to warm up his spinning fingers, sending down the fizzing leg-break with just the third ball of his first over for the innings.

“Look at the turn! Prodigious turn,” one commentator said. “Almost so wide it hit the footmarks on the edge of the pitch and spun sharply.”

Swepson then had Kurtis Patterson caught behind for nine as the Blues slumped to 2/49 at stumps on day three in the final round of the regular Shield season.

NSW posted 381 in its first innings, thanks to a century from Jason Sangha, before Marnus Labuschagne (112) and Usman Khawaja (64) led the way for Queensland, who responded with 433.

Aussie off-spinner Nathan Lyon took six wickets for NSW.

The Blues and Bulls will likely play each other again in the final, unless Western Australia can conjure up something spectacular on the final day of its Shield clash against Tasmania.

The Warriors ended day three at 1/11 in its second innings, needing to successfully chase down a monster total of 480 in just 96 overs to have any chance of dislodging either NSW or Queensland and forcing their way into the decider.
