A woman stabbed her boyfriend to death using a shisha pipe needle after a row over a samosa spiralled into bloodshed, it has been reported.
Nicole Maria Ferreira da Costa, 20, is charged with murder after the petty row in which she allegedly used the needle of a hookah to kill her partner.
Police in Brazil say the woman admitted to using the hookah needle during a trivial argument over a ‘pastel’, which is a Brazilian fast-food dish similar to a samosa.
Adailton Gomes de Abreu Sousa, 24, died at his girlfriend’s house on September 18 last year in the municipality of Aparecida de Goiania, southwest of the capital city of Brasilia.
Earlier in the day, he had gone out with her and two of his sisters to a food market.
According to investigators the couple started arguing over a pastel, and the argument continued when they went back to Costa’s house, where she is alleged to have stabbed him in the nipple with the needle.
Adailton’s sisters, aged 13 and 16, were outside the house when the alleged killing took place.
Investigators originally suspected Adailton had suffered a heart attack before they noticed the perforation in his nipple caused by the needle, which had pierced his heart.
Chief investigator Eduardo Rodovalho told news site G1: “He was in agony for a short time and then died.”
During questioning, Costa told the police that her boyfriend had attacked her with a broken hookah pipe and she stabbed him with the needle in self-defence before seeking help.
But investigators ruled out self-defence after no injuries were found on the woman. They also said that fights between the “immature” couple were commonplace.
Costa was not arrested at the time, as she cooperated fully with the police and appeared ‘genuinely distressed’ at her boyfriend’s death.
Adailton was a mechanic and left behind a two-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. He and Costa had been together for about two years.
A pastel is a typical Brazilian street-food snack consisting of a thin-crust pie with one of assorted fillings, fried in vegetable oil.
It it is unclear why it was the cause of friction between the pair, and Costa was released on bail while awaiting trial.

A teenager was mowed down by a car before being stabbed to death in a brutal killing.
Emergency crews found Josiah Norman, 17, after he was knifed in the chest on Peveril Road in Greater Manchester around 8.15pm on Wednesday April 21.
The teen was walking with his friend when two vehicles raced up to the pair, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Noticing the vehicle’s speed, the pair split up, but Josiah was then hit by one before being attacked with weapons.
His attackers then fled the scene.
Salford district Superintendent Glenn Jones said: “Josiah and his friend were walking on the street in question when one of the vehicles approached at speed.
“Both of the victims noticed the speed, they split.
“Two men exited the vehicle, Josiah was assaulted.
“Unfortunately, Josiah was caught with the second oncoming vehicle coming towards Josiah.
“He was hit by the vehicle and was subsequently attacked with weapons.
“The men left the scene.
“Josiah was taken to hospital but despite emergency services’ best efforts, he died from his injuries.”
Moments after police arrived at Peveril Road, officers were called to a home on nearby Stowell Street following reports another boy, also 17, had been stabbed in the arm.
The teenager had already gone to hospital, police said.
“Officers attended and he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder,” added the superintendent.
“He has since been taken in for questioning.”
Police say they believe the killing was ‘targeted’, with a ‘dispute’ believed to be the cause for the stabbing.
In recent hours, a 19-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Two other people also have been arrested in relation to this incident, but police say they are not yet able to disclose the offences at this ‘early stage’ in the investigation.
Two vehicles have been recovered after suffering ‘fire damage’, believed to be linked to investigation, says the force.
Friends have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the nightmare that has consumed Salford in the wake of the young man’s killing.
One told the Manchester Evening News: “Josiah was a well known person, everyone enjoyed his company.
“He was always a laugh to be around.
“He used to always mess with his afro and always wore a cap.”
Josiah’s loved ones have also set up a fundraising page to ‘give him the send off he deserves’ – which raised more than £1,900 in just a few hours.
The teenager is understood to have been a student at AldridgeUTC arts college, based in MediaCity.
A tribute written on the page reads: “He was such a happy young innocent man who didn’t deserve any of what has happened to him.
“He had so much life ahead of him, he’s life had only just started.
“We looking to give him the send off he deserves.
“Rest in piece Josiah.”
A heartfelt message left at the scene added: “RIP Jo, one of the nicest people I’ve ever known. You will never be forgotten.”
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
High-visible patrols will remain in the area through to the weekend.
Superintendent Glenn Jones said: “Our thoughts are with Josiah’s family and loved ones.
“Our specialist officers are working to support them at this time.
“This is a shocking incident which will understandably cause concern within the local community.
“We know there are witnesses to this horrific incident, we urge anyone with information to come forward.
“We ask this in order to bring those responsible to justice for Josiah’s family.”
