Thieves steal two-year-old’s birthday presents worth £500 after mum saved up for months

A mum from Leeds has been left heartbroken after burglars ruined her little boy’s birthday by stealing all his presents.

Sasha Thomas of Whinmoor, Leeds was devastated after burglars broke into her garage and stole the Toy Story presents she had saved up for her son over months, including buying some hard-to-get ones from the US.

The hard-working 33-year-old had been saving for months to give Luca the best birthday she could afford, reports Leeds Live.

But the burglars broke into her garage, left all the expensive tools and items and only took little Luca’s birthday toys.

Sasha, who is originally from Plymouth, said: “I’ve worked so hard to give Luca, who is Toy Story-mad, a lovely birthday and then this happens.

“On July 31 my partner, Andrew, asked if I had been in the garage as it was slightly ajar. I said: ‘no’ and then we found out what had happened.

“Our house is so small that the garage was the only place we could keep everything for Luca.

“It’s his second birthday on 31 August and I had spent £500 on giving him the best birthday I could.

“Luca’s gifts were all in Disney bags and boxes – but the entire lot was gone.

Sasha has been in touch with West Yorkshire Police about the robbery, but isn’t holding out much hope of getting the presents back.

“I’m on furlough still and with such short time I’ll never afford to replace these things,” she said.

“Going to the back of my garage yesterday and seeing everything I’d saved for to make my boy’s day special broke my heart.

“Our electric drill and power tools weren’t taken. We had lots of expensive things in there yet they only targeted my son’s gifts.”

An old friend of hers from Devon, Claire Mayne, has now set up a GoFundMe site to raise £500 so Sasha can try to replace the presents and already £150 has been raised by kind-hearted wellwishers.
